Effective Summer Layering

Layering is not only for the colder months.
You can still effectively layer during the hotter summer months too.
Just look at all Summer Pitti Uomo photos for proof.

The way to layer effectively during the summer is by selecting the right fabrics. Natural summer fabrics generally last longer and breath better. Summer fabrics can range from linen to summer weight cotton and wool.

I’ve had this Linen jacket for a while now but didn’t like the fabric buttons.I felt that such a summery jacket needed something with a bit more contrast. My tailor suggested to go with white mother of pearl buttons but made a last minute change to grey as the white still did not have enough contrast.

Completely unlined

As you can see from the photos, the jacket is fully unlined including the sleeves. This makes it perfect for layering even during the hottest of days due to how easily it breathes.
Unlined sleeves are quite rare for an off the rack jacket this generally comes down to cost as the exposed edges of the sleeve seams have to be finished properly. It is cheaper for a company to just hide all the sloppy stitching behind a lining.

The jacket also has Surgeon sleeves and can be completely opened. This allows the wearer to roll the shirt sleeve over the jackets for extra ventilation.
Seersucker stripes and texture

I opted to match my jacket with a cotton seersucker shirt from Jcrew. I also have this shirt in the typical navy stripe. I find seersucker perfect with or without a jacket due to the texture and stripes.

For the trousers I went with pleated Navy cotton chinos from Suit Supply. the pleats allow the fabric to breathe around a very crucial area. To top it all off, loafers with no show socks and of course a panama hat to protect your face from the harsh sunshine.

  1. Nice post :)
Keep up with the good work ^^
